Pass requires 60+ points in every event
Note: The APFT was the Army's test before the ACFT. This calculator interpolates between the 60-point and 100-point raw anchors for each age/sex band; official FM 7-22 point tables list exact values per rep and per second. Use this as a study aid.

How the APFT Is Scored
The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) was the U.S. Army's standard fitness test for decades before the ACFT. It has three events — push-ups and sit-ups (2 minutes each) and a 2-mile run — each scored 0 to 100 by age and sex, for a maximum total of 300. This calculator estimates your APFT score and pass/fail status.
The Three Events
- Push-ups: As many correct push-ups as possible in 2 minutes.
- Sit-ups: As many correct sit-ups as possible in 2 minutes.
- 2-mile run: A timed 2-mile run on a measured course.
How Scoring Works
Each event is scored on age- and sex-specific point tables. 60 points is the minimum passing standard in each event, and 100 points is the maximum. To pass the APFT you must score at least 60 in all three events. This calculator interpolates between the documented 60-point and 100-point raw anchors for your age band.
Passing Standards (60 points) by Age — Male
| Age | Push-ups | Sit-ups | 2-mile run |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17–21 | 42 | 53 | 15:54 |
| 22–26 | 40 | 50 | 17:00 |
| 27–31 | 39 | 45 | 17:42 |
| 32–36 | 36 | 42 | 18:18 |
Passing Standards (60 points) by Age — Female
| Age | Push-ups | Sit-ups | 2-mile run |
|---|---|---|---|
| 17–21 | 19 | 53 | 18:54 |
| 22–26 | 17 | 50 | 19:36 |
| 27–31 | 17 | 45 | 20:30 |
| 32–36 | 15 | 42 | 21:42 |
Worked Example
A 25-year-old male does 50 push-ups, 55 sit-ups, and runs 2 miles in 15:00. All three sit well above the 60-point minimums for his age, scoring in the 80s and 90s for a strong total near 260.
APFT vs. ACFT
The APFT measured muscular and aerobic endurance; the ACFT added strength and power events (deadlift, power throw, sprint-drag-carry). Many units still use APFT-style training for conditioning, and the test remains a useful benchmark.
Note: This calculator interpolates between the 60-point and 100-point raw anchors per age/sex band; the official FM 7-22 tables list an exact point value for every rep and every second. Use this as a study and training aid, not an official scorecard.
Frequently Asked Questions
You need at least 60 points in each of the three events to pass. A perfect score is 300 (100 per event). Scoring is adjusted for your age and sex.
The APFT was replaced by the ACFT as the Army's official test, but many units still use APFT-style events for conditioning and it remains a useful endurance benchmark.
You perform as many correct push-ups as possible in two minutes. Reps that break form (sagging hips, incomplete range) are not counted. Sit-ups follow the same two-minute format.
