Jonas

I'm a software developer and year long triathlete. I spend a lot of time in the gym and wanted to know how many calories I burn. Most calculators don't tell you how they calculate the calories burned, so I made this simple calculator that uses your weight, number of pushups per minute and duration to calculate the calories burned.

Push ups burn approximately 0.3 calories per rep — around 8 to 10 calories per minute at a moderate pace. A 70 kg person doing 100 push ups burns roughly 30 calories; at 200 push ups that rises to around 60 calories. Your exact burn depends on body weight, pace, and workout duration.

Calories Burned by Push-Up Count and Body Weight

Heavier individuals expend more energy per rep. The table below estimates calories burned across common rep counts at four body weights:

Push-Ups 60 kg (132 lb) 70 kg (154 lb) 80 kg (176 lb) 90 kg (198 lb)
10 push-ups 3 cal 3 cal 4 cal 4 cal
20 push-ups 5 cal 6 cal 7 cal 8 cal
30 push-ups 8 cal 9 cal 11 cal 12 cal
50 push-ups 13 cal 15 cal 18 cal 20 cal
100 push-ups 26 cal 30 cal 35 cal 39 cal
200 push-ups 51 cal 60 cal 69 cal 77 cal
300 push-ups 77 cal 90 cal 103 cal 116 cal
500 push-ups 128 cal 150 cal 171 cal 193 cal
1,000 push-ups 257 cal 300 cal 343 cal 386 cal

How Many Push-Ups to Burn X Calories

Use this table to find how many push-ups you need to hit a calorie target. Values are based on body weight — heavier individuals burn more per rep and therefore need fewer reps to reach the same goal:

Calorie Goal 60 kg (132 lb) 70 kg (154 lb) 80 kg (176 lb) 90 kg (198 lb)
50 calories ~195 push-ups ~167 push-ups ~146 push-ups ~130 push-ups
100 calories ~390 push-ups ~333 push-ups ~292 push-ups ~260 push-ups
200 calories ~780 push-ups ~667 push-ups ~583 push-ups ~519 push-ups
300 calories ~1,170 push-ups ~1,000 push-ups ~875 push-ups ~779 push-ups
500 calories ~1,951 push-ups ~1,667 push-ups ~1,462 push-ups ~1,299 push-ups
1,000 calories ~3,891 push-ups ~3,333 push-ups ~2,924 push-ups ~2,597 push-ups

How the Push-Up Calories Calculator Works

The Push-Up Calories Calculator estimates the number of calories burned during a push-up workout based on your push-up rate and workout duration. On average, a person burns approximately 0.3 calories per push-up.

The Calorie Formula

The calculator uses a simplified approach to estimate calories burned:

Calories Burned = Number of Push-Ups × 0.3 Where: Number of Push-Ups = Push-Ups per Minute × Total Time in Minutes Calories per Push-Up ≈ 0.3 (average estimation)

Input Parameters

  • 1

    Weight

Your body weight in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lbs).

  • 2

    Push-Ups per Minute

The number of push-ups you can perform in one minute.

  • 3

    Time

The duration of your workout in hours, minutes, and seconds (HH:MM:SS).

Calculation Process

  • 1

    Calculate Total Push-Ups

Multiply push-ups per minute by total time in minutes.

  • 2

    Apply Formula

Multiply total push-ups by calories per push-up (0.3).

  • 3

    Calculate Hourly Burn

Determine calories burned per hour based on the calculated rate.

Output

The calculator provides two main outputs:

  • 1

    Total Calories Burned

The estimated total number of calories burned during the workout.

  • 2

    Calories Burned per Hour

The estimated rate of calorie burn if the workout were to continue for an hour.

Important Notes

  • 1

    Simplified Estimation

This calculation uses a simplified approach and may not account for all factors affecting calorie burn.

  • 2

    Individual Variations

Frequently Asked Questions

How many calories do push ups burn?

Push ups burn approximately 0.3 calories per rep — about 8 to 10 calories per minute at a moderate pace of 25–30 reps per minute for a 70 kg person. The exact amount depends on your body weight, rep speed, and workout duration.

How many calories does 20 push ups burn?

20 push ups burn approximately 6 calories for the average person, based on the standard estimate of 0.3 cal per push-up. Heavier individuals burn slightly more — a 90 kg person burns around 8 calories for 20 reps.

How many calories does 50 push ups burn?

50 push ups burn approximately 15 calories on average. At a moderate pace of 25 reps per minute, 50 push ups takes about 2 minutes of effort.

How many calories does 100 push ups burn?

100 push ups burn approximately 30 calories. If you sustain 30 push-ups per minute, you will complete 100 reps in around 3 minutes and 20 seconds.

How many calories does 200 push ups burn?

200 push ups burn approximately 60 calories on average. At a moderate pace of 25 reps per minute, 200 push ups takes roughly 8 minutes.

How many calories are burned per push up?

The average calorie burn per push-up is 0.2 to 0.4 calories, with 0.3 calories per push-up as the standard estimate for a 70 kg (154 lb) person. Lighter people burn slightly less; heavier people burn slightly more per rep.

How many push ups do I need to do to burn 100 calories?

You need approximately 333 push ups to burn 100 calories, using the 0.3 cal/rep estimate for a 70 kg person. At 30 reps per minute, that is about 11 minutes of continuous push-ups. Lighter individuals need more reps; heavier individuals need fewer.

How many push ups to burn 500 calories?

Burning 500 calories with push ups requires approximately 1,667 push ups for a 70 kg person. At a sustained pace of 30 reps per minute, that equals roughly 55 minutes of push-ups. This is best broken into sets throughout a workout.
