Frequently Asked Questions
The calculator uses Zwift-specific physics including CdA values, rolling resistance (Crr = 0.004), and draft mechanics. Estimates are typically within 5-10% of actual times, though individual performance can vary based on pacing, in-game powerups, and equipment bonuses.
For steady endurance rides, choose Zone 2 (Endurance) at 75% of FTP. For race simulations, use Zone 4 (Threshold) at 100% FTP. The calculator accounts for natural power variation on climbs and descents regardless of your base zone selection.
Zwift provides significant drafting benefits in groups. Solo riding has no draft. Small groups (2-5 riders) save about 25% of air resistance. Medium groups (6-20) save 35%, and large pelotons (20+) can save up to 50% of aerodynamic drag.
The calculator uses baseline Zwift physics without specific bike/wheel bonuses. In-game, using aero frames like the Tron bike or S-Works Venge can reduce times by 1-3% depending on the route terrain.
Several factors can cause differences: varying power output during the ride, using powerups (Aero boost, Feather), different bike/wheel setups in Zwift, lead-in distances, and pacing strategy on climbs. The estimates assume steady-state power at your target zone.
TSS (Training Stress Score) estimates the training load of each route based on duration and intensity. A TSS of 100 equals roughly one hour at FTP. Use TSS to plan recovery and prevent overtraining when scheduling multiple rides.
